WordPress to Squarespace
Oh man, where to begin?
Over the last few month's I've heard a lot about Squarespace. First it was Lauren Hooker raving about the site, then in a webinar with Mariah and Jen. I've always loved the idea of a drag-and-drop web builder.
I used weebly when I first started blogging and freewebs (now webs) way back in middle school. Both were drag-and-drop interfaces which required little coding. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE WordPress. You can do amazing things with their platform and build beautiful sites, but I need some simplicity right now.
I'm working full time, attending school full time, interning part time for Kate Maxwell, planning a wedding and working on this site on the side. My life is crazy. WordPress is fantastic but I honestly cannot take the time needed to find & update plugins I need, schedule social media posts and blog posts or make tweeks to my theme everytime there's an update.
Squarespace is simple and streamlined. I can run my shop, the toolbox and the blog through one platform. I can schedule posts and share content quickly and easily. Right now in the middle of chaos, SS is exactly what I need.
The Big Debate: SS v. WP
If you're on SS you've probably heard people say WP is better, and if you're on WP you've probably been told to try SS.
Here's what I think after trying both - I like Squarespace better. I still think WP is a great CMS and it's obviously an extremely powerful tool, but for my small business needs, SS gives me all the tools I need without the stress.
Keep in mind I've used WP for over 5 years and I've only been on SS for a month or so. But honestly SS is just simpler. There's not as big of a learning curve, I can see what my design will look like while I make changes, and I'm not spending money on all the little elements (themes, plugins, hosting, domains) that come in a neat little package on SS.
Now, listen up. If you're a business with 10+ people and you need your website to do a lot for your customers and have lots of pages and tools - WP is the better choice, 100%. BUT if you're a blogger, small business owner, etsy seller, or entrepreneur - SS is seriously worth considering.
If you're on WP or Blogger right now, consider trying the 14 day trial on SS. You can migrate all your current blog posts, pages and media to SS quickly and easily. Try it out and see if it works for you.
I'll be doing some more blog posts about SS including tutorials, guides and tips. There's not a lot of content about SS because it is a newer trend, but Elle & Co has a great series to get you started.
Let me know in the comment what you think of all this? Do you disagree or did I hit the nail on the head?
So, what's new?
I've migrated completely to Squarespace as of this morning. I still have an account through Bluehost that I'm not entirely sure what to do with, and I still have a lot of work to do to this site. I also have some other projects in the works that I wanted to announce and share with you all.
My goal is to focus more on the big ideas of Nora Conrad and stress less about the details (like updates, changing my layout or trying to speed up my website). That means more content and goodies for you!
Better Blog Posts
I've been reading blogs for awhile, but it doesn't take a genius to know the most helpful posts go beyond just an article. That's why my goal is to offer a free worksheet, printable or PDF guide with every single blog post.
I want each of my posts to be worth sharing, bookmarking and re-reading. From now on, I'll be posting 2-5 blog posts every month, but those posts will be packed full of resources, videos, printables and guides. I'm pretty excited about it, I hope you all are too.
I don't know about you, but sometimes I am just too lazy to READ information, I'd rather WATCH it. That's why I'll be posting more content for bloggers, freelancers and small business owners on my channels (YouTube & Vimeo)! These videos will go along with topics on the blog, as well as more lifestyle-type videos on my YouTube channel.
If you haven't heard, it's Infopreneur Book Month! I've taken the challenge to create an eBook in 30 days. I've had a couple eBooks half-started for awhile now and this challenge is my motivation to finish them. I'll be releasing two books on June 1st.
The Entrepreneur's Toolbook
This eBook is a step-by-step guide for online tools. It has all the tools I use to run my blog, business and freelancing gigs with detailed instructions and ideas on how to use them!
The book is packed full of tutorials, how-tos and guides to setting up and using some of the best resources on the web. To get your copy sign up for our newsletter! All subscribers will get the copy emailed to them on launch day. You can also get the book for free if you're a subscriber to the toolbox.
Money In Your 20's
If you're leaving high school, leaving college or you just need some budget help, this eBook was written for you. I never learned how to manage my own finances in school, so this guide is to take you step-by-step through balancing your budget, saving for big purchases and learning everything you need to know about personal finance decisions.
This eBook will be available in the shop on June 1st, but if you're signed up for the newsletter, you'll receive a special coupon code to use!
Nora Conrad Toolbox
If you didn't already know, a couple months ago I opened up Norbly Toolbox. It's a resource library for business owners, bloggers and entrepreneurs. There's exclusive content, downloads, tutorials and articles as well as a full list of some great tools and blogs to check out.
The toolbox is a subscription service, meaning you can purchase access to the page. I had the toolbox at norbly.com but with the move to SS, I was able to transfer all the goodies onto one site! That means you can now access the toolbox from right here.
To find out more about the Toolbox, try a free sample or to subscribe, click HERE.
That's all folks
Okay, that was a lot of updates and a lot of info for you. There will be a regular blog post in the next couple of days, but for now I'd LOVE some feedback.
Let me know what you think about the move to SS, the toolbox and all the side projects happening here at Nora Conrad. Shoot me an email or comment below!
Other than that, you all have a fantastic day.
Want more info about Squarespace or not sure how to transfer your current blog? My friend Kaylee is switching from WP to SS, and we're going to make the change live on the webinar and take you through the whole process!
